James Mattis is a retired United States Marine Corps general who served as the 26th United States Secretary of Defense. He previously served as the Commander of the United States Central Command and the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO.
Mattis is a highly decorated veteran with over four decades of service. He has been awarded the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Navy Cross, and the Silver Star.
Mattis is the author of several books, including "Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead" and "Warriors & Citizens: American Views of War and Military Service."
